Thankfully the above heading doesn’t refer to this summer’s latest romantic comedy blockbuster movie starring Hugh Grant – it refers to 21 Billingham swimmers who will travel down to the home of British swimming to compete in a level 3 gala. All swimmers will receive a new club T-Shirt – a great memento for those who will be competing at this venue for the first time
Good luck to all swimmers:
Chris Wilkinson, Claire Collins, Erin Flynn, Ethan Brown, Freya Williams, Hannah Fenwick, Hayley Briggs, Jack Harwood, James Edon, James Holland, Jennifer Gibson, Jordan Mogford, Jude Blackmore, Mae Donohoe, Matthew Fenwick, Nathan Roberts, Peter Harbron, Rhiannon Flynn, Sam Chell, Sam Milburn and Stephanie Blackburn

Paddle Boarding is a sport which originates from Hawaii and is known as hoe he’e nalu. The top two Billingham swim squads took part in a paddle boarding boot camp – unfortunately not in the sun kissed islands of Hawaii, but the seaside town that is twinned with Honolulu; Saltburn!
A fun filled afternoon both on, and in the water was had by all. Followed by fish and chips and a game of football.

The club is again collecting wish tokens from the Evening Gazette. If you, your family or friends are regular readers of the paper, the club would appreciate your help in collecting the tokens. These can be handed in to Sue Mogford on a Saturday morning.
Criteria for the parents lane can be found on the squads tab on the left - at the bottom of the page.
The Billingham Junior League team saved their best performance of the season for the final. The team started in fantastic fashion as they clinched their first trophy of the day, winning the Fancy Dress competition for division 3. The collective group of Superhero’s saw off the fierce competition from the Thornaby teams ‘Despicable Me’ minions – although they did have their revenge later in the day.
All swimmers swam brilliantly for the entire session and demonstrated a real team attitude; screaming and shouting encouragement to get every last ounce of effort from every swimmer.
In a close competition however, Billingham were piped for second place by Thornaby. We did finish the day by winning the final race of the day – the Cannon which resulted in another trophy.
It was also fitting that Billingham won the best Aged 12 group as well; as these swimmers completed their last ever junior league fixture as next year they will be too old.
A copy of the draft programme is below. All swims have been checked and those who submitted their entries before the 9th June deadline have all been accepted. Unfortunately the entries that were received after this date were not accepted.
Accommodation: BASC normally stay at the Premier Inn on Angel Street in Sheffield, which is a 5 minute walk to the pool. Booking can be made here.
Following the cancellation of the last day of the Age Group championships in Sheffield, the event has been rescheduled to take place at Sunderland Aquatic centre on Saturday 21st June. Because of the short notice the warm up will start at 9am and the event at 10am.
Entrance for spectators will be free.

Billingham ASC attended the 13th Middlesbrough Open over the weekend of the 9th/10th/11th May. The weekend served as a last chance for swimmers to obtain ASANER qualifying times for the Age Group competition in June, and provided a stage for some fabulous swimming from all our swimmers. All swimmers had a PB during the competition and most made sizeable improvements in time. Overall Billingham finished with 1 Gold, 3 Silver and 7 Bronze medals, but more importantly lots of very happy and proud swimmers!
Thanks to Don, Chris and Fran for their poolside presence!
Results can now be found here

Thank you to all swimmers and officials for helping make the event a success.
Apologies for the use of a temporary scoreboard at the event, we appreciate it was not ideal for all swimmers and spectators to view. Next year’s event will be back to normal and relay events will be revamped – the date will be confirmed soon.
