Just a reminder that training is off Saturday morning.
Luton is not only famous for its airport, the hat industry and a 1970s Campari advert starring Lorraine Chase in which she was asked “Were you truly wafted here from paradise?” to which she answered: “Nah, Luton Airport.”
But it is also home to a hugely oversubscribed Level 1 gala this weekend (16th/17th Nov) and Billingham ASC are hugely grateful to the organisers of the event in allowing a high number of accepted entries from our swimmers to make the journey worthwhile.
So good luck to Claire Collins, Freya Williams, Hayley Briggs, Jack Harwood, Jenny Gibson, Jessica Hall, Jordan Mogford, Joshua Patterson, Jude Blackmore, Lewis Robertson, Rebecca Hall, Samuel Chell and Stephanie Blakeburn as they pack their kit bags and rollers to make the long journey south.
But 13 is lucky for Mark Blackmore who wins £35 from the draw on the 9th November. Another £35 is up for grabs next week.
Congratulations to Ben Wrann who won the name the bear competition with the name Ben. He wins the bear and a selection of sweets.
The club launches the revamped Bonus Ball this weekend with a prize fund of £35. Attached is a complete list of the allocated balls. Good luck!!!
Thanks to our Official Club Photographer, Claire Collins, we now have a number of images from the recent training camp in Cyprus. Images can be found here.

Results file from the Halloween meet can be found here but Billingham had some strong performances by all swimmers.
Total medal haul for the weekend was 2 Gold / 6 Silver / 6 Bronze.
Again huge thanks go to Chris and Fran for keeping the kids motivated and organised. Making his side line debut on Saturday was Don who wore his Billingham shirt with pride.
GB Masters results and report from Lyn Shepherd can be found on the 'Gala Results & Reports' page.
Congratulations to Guy Fawkes who was a runner up in the Evening Gazette Awards – Coach of the Year category. Billingham ASC are very fortunate to benefit from Guy’s time, enthusiasm and dedication; and this was an opportunity for him to be honoured and recognised for his amazing efforts amongst the best coaches and athletes across Teesside.
The event was held at the Thistle Hotel in Middlesbrough and the Evening Gazette article can be viewed here
The club is again collecting the Evening Gazette Wish Tokens. Every year the Evening Gazette gives away thousands of pounds to worthy groups, charities and not-for-profit organisations across Teesside.
This year they have £40,000 to share between the 279 groups registered with Wish 2013. Groups must now collect tokens printed in the Gazette. Every token counts as the more tokens a group collects the bigger their share of the cash.
Therefore if you read the Evening Gazette, or have family and friends who do, it would make a huge contribution to our club and young swimmers if you could collect the tokens and hand them over to Sue Mogford.
Results can be found here
Billingham sent a large team of swimmers to the N & D Autumn meet, held on the 12th and 13th October at Sunderland Aquatic Centre. The squad were of mixed experience. Some swimmers were chasing NER and N&D qualifying times, for others this was the first time swimming in a 50m pool and also we had a number of swimmers making their first ever gala appearance.
With a very vocal and appreciative team of supporters; the Billingham swimmers responded with lots of personal best times together with 14 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals. More importantly, a number of swimmers successfully completed their first gala with big smiles.
The banner of “Go Billingham, Go” has now been rolled up and put away, but with the Middlesbrough Halloween Meet in a couple of weeks we will all be back to it soon.
Finally on behalf of all the parents, huge thanks go to Fran Gibson, Chris Williams and Lewis Robertson who kept our excited young swimmers focused on the pool side.
A word of warning to parents and members who park in the large car park at the front of the Forum, a number of people have received parking fines for leaving their vehicle in the coach bays. This is appropriate parking if you happen to drive a 50 seater single deck coach, but for those who drive a typical modest family car – you have been warned – please only park in a designated space.
Two Billingham ASC swimmers made the long journey to Liverpool on Wednesday 9th October to represent Red House School in the Northern Independent Schools Swimming Championships held, at the impressive Liverpool Aquatic Centre.
Rebecca Hall recorded 2 personal best times in the 50m fly and 50m breast as she recorded 1st place finishes in both events. Meanwhile Sam Chell also recorded 2 personal best times in the 100m breast and 100m free style events, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively against older and more experienced swimmers.
Rebecca will now progress to represent the Northern area in the National Finals to be held in Coventry in February 2014.
We are fast approaching the end of the year and as usual we intend to have a Christmas Raffle to help raise funds for the club. To make the raffle more appealing we are looking for prize donations. If anybody is in a position to offer a prize, or works for a compan who would donate a prize, could they please contact Sue Mogford.
On Wednesday 25th September, a number of swimmers, coaches and parents flew out to the sun kissed island of Cyprus for an intensive week of training. Guy has produced a workout programme that is challenging, rewarding and hopefully enjoyable. Swimmers will be put through their paces in the wonderful surroundings location of Yeroskipou - a coastal town situated 5 minutes’ drive east from the centre of Paphos.
The excellent facilities boast a heated 10 lane 50 metre swimming pool which forms part of a larger complex with an athletics track and a number of football pitches. Our swimmers will train twice a day in the pool or the hotel gym for land training. The resort is regularly used by numerous national and club teams from all over Europe.
So, whilst the swimmers train hard with the promise of an afternoon ice cream, many of the parents can participate in a specially arranged parents swimming lane – they do however have their own ideas for rehydrating!
The trip isn’t all about training as a number of activities have been set up for everyone to enjoy including ‘Go Karting’ and a trip to a water park.
Congratulations to Chris Wilkinson who was awarded The Nick Jackson Memorial Trophy at the NER Masters, Stanley on Saturday.
The Nick Jackson Memorial Trophy is awarded at the NER Masters every year to the swimmer who gets closest to their respective age groups British Record in the 200m Butterfly, as Nick was a very promising 200m fly swimmer himself when he passed away in a scuba diving accident 8 years ago. Nick's mother presented Chris with the trophy at the gala and remarked she was happy it was staying in the North East.
THe 2013 AGM took place on 14th September. The minutes of the meeting and the officials reports can be viewed on the club documents page or click here
