After 3 long weekends the Northumberland & Durham County Championships are finally over.

Sunday 2nd March saw Billingham compete in the first round of Junior League fixtures. The team performed superbly against some strong competition, and just like Manchester City they came from behind to beat Sunderland!!
Coach Gillian Sheehan was delighted with the performance and especially the younger swimmers taking part in their very first gala. Overall they finished a credible 5th place against Division 2 clubs.
Not only were we successful in the water but thanks to a large team of volunteers Billingham successfully hosted the event. From cake bakers to raffle ticket sellers, poolside helpers and announcers – everyone contributed to ensure that almost 950 spectators and 425 swimmers got into the building, enjoyed the swimming, spent some money and got out safely over 3 sessions!

British Swimming have now received official notification of the statement of the FINA TSC:
Related to the new FINA Rules about separated hands as mentioned in SW 7.6 (Breaststroke) and SW 8.4 (Butterfly) please note the statement of the FINA TSC as agreed at the FINA TSC at the Meeting in Bangkok (THA on 6 & 7 December 2013).
"Separated" means that the hands cannot be stacked one on top of the other. It is not necessary to see space between the hands. Incidental contact at the fingers is not a concern.

Billingham sent a large team of swimmers to the N & D Autumn meet, held on the 12th and 13th October at Sunderland Aquatic Centre. The squad were of mixed experience. Some swimmers were chasing NER and N&D qualifying times, for others this was the first time swimming in a 50m pool and also we had a number of swimmers making their first ever gala appearance.
With a very vocal and appreciative team of supporters; the Billingham swimmers responded with lots of personal best times together with 14 gold, 11 silver and 11 bronze medals. More importantly, a number of swimmers successfully completed their first gala with big smiles.
The banner of “Go Billingham, Go” has now been rolled up and put away, but with the Middlesbrough Halloween Meet in a couple of weeks we will all be back to it soon.
Finally on behalf of all the parents, huge thanks go to Fran Gibson, Chris Williams and Lewis Robertson who kept our excited young swimmers focused on the pool side.
